help with paper clip test

 :y :'( :'(hi all  i am having trouble doin a paper clip test i have put the clip in and the eml light goes off  but no light flashers , if i slightly m

move the clip the light comes on ?? please help , i am going to try again in morning with a bigger clip!!

 i have pushed the  clip all the way but no look
 the car 2.0l cd auto estate if this helps , i have looked at the help guide but still no light flashers  ,,thanks to u all !!!! :-/ :-/

i find it easier to use a short length of solid copper earth wire. it's only a bit wider than the paper clip buts holds in better.  ;)

Mick - can you put the year of your car in your profile please? It helps with answering questions.

   thks did all in right order , the car is a r. reg 2.0l cd estate , its not the one i use , its a friend of mine the car will not start  ????

Did you havethe  engine running?

Test won't work on your model if you do.

  yes mate did that, goin to try in morning with bigger clip or piece of cable

no codes? If the clip is in and the light is off then the car knows the clip is there. If it then does not flash, i presume there as no codes stored. To confirm, maybe disconnect the maf or something safe, and see if that makes it flash a code. Had the same on my mates 2.0 16valve. His was a face lift with a car spanner symbol on dash bottom left.
I dont know if yours is the same and/or if it should flash 1,2 three times to confirm diagnostic start? Or if it is obd2 in which case it wont flash 1.2 and will give a 4 digit code if there is one stored...... afaik.
