Rear Elite Suspension - Quick Questions?
« on: 05 November 2008, 10:04:30 »

Hi,

I've got a 97 Elite with self levelling suspension which sits much lower on the passenger rear than drivers, I'm guessing the spring has had it so I'm looking to replace both the rears.

Also, about a year ago - I had a strange event where the complete back end of the car "locked up" as in had zero suspension despite new shocks about 9k previous - apparently the rear shocks froze?

My questions are:

I want to use Bilstein shocks and junk the self levelling - are gas shocks a direct replacement?

I'm probably going to get Eibach springs which will lower 30mm - any known issues with this (xenon range?)

Are the rear springs difficult to change?

Many thanks in advance  :)

With the 30mm drop, you need to ensure that the shocks can support that level of drop. The Bilstein ones definately do and all Omega shocks were gas from the factory.

HID's will self compensate so no problems there.

Thanks Mark, rears will be Bilstein - fronts are gen GM and not seen more than 10k

Good to hear that the HID's will be OK!

I couldn't find BNE-2861 on there.

Are they better/cheaper than OEM?

Hi Mark

What is the torque value for the bottom fixing for the rear damper? I had a problem with one of mine coming loose, almost to the point where the bolt was about to drop out. So I am assuming it will be a reasonably high torque value.

Cheers
