3.0 cams into 2.5 v6
« on: 04 November 2008, 21:18:50 »

Hi, Is it worth fitting the 3.0 cams into the 2.5 v6? Ive been told you get a nice little HP gain. Also do you swap the bearing caps from the doner 3.0 aswell?

yes. Dont think the caps are needed. Someone will confirm one way or the other no doubt. There is info in, i think the tech info section, to id which cam is which iirc. Saw a thread the other day, said you may only need the exhaust cams, again, please wait for others to confirm... Anyone?

Bearing caps must be kept with the head they originally came from, in the same position and orientation. They have markings on them so make a note where they were before diassembling and re-assemble exactly as they were. Only the cam shafts should be used from the donor engine.

oh yeah question about the cams :P
should you or should you not use the actual pullies from the 3.0 or take them off and put the 2.5 pullies on?
was thinking about the timing thats all - i dont know if they're exactly the same or not

You need both inlet and exhaust cams on the X25XE engine to get full effect unlike the C25XE from the cav/calibra lump which already has the 3.0 exhaust cams fitted.

Cam bearing caps must remain with the head as they are line bored.

Do not use pattern cam seals as they always leak. In fact re-using the roigianl seals has worked 100% for me so far.

The sprockets are the same on 2.5 and 3.0 engines.

I recently did the "camshaft upgrade" for 3.0ltr and have been most impressed with the performance difference. The engine has noticeably more power and will accelerate rapidly even from motorway speeds,so for the work involved it is well worth the effort.
I did mine at the same time as a cambelt/tensioner replacement so the extra bit of work was minimal, although to be totally sure I did replace the camshaft seals, along with the obvious camcover seals and rings.
As others have advised all 4 cams should be replaced but retain the original bearing caps but these must go back as removed in the same place and direction.
Good luck with it..you will smile when it is done...I did.

Bit more help please guys, Cam numbers A3 &A6 are exhaust and numbers G1 &G5 are inlet. Do the numbers 3,6 & 1,5 refer to anything important?
