turns over but dont fire... for a while anyway
« on: 07 November 2008, 22:04:21 »

Thanks Paul for directing me here. Could anybody help with this problem with my MV6 2.6? The car runs fine, but occassionally when I go back to it it turns over but does not start. 10, 20 or 30 minutes later it starts and is fine againg for hours, even days and then the problem starts again. I have recently changed the oil cooler, and plugs. Could something here have been disturbed on the loom? Could it be petrol pump or immobiliser problem? Could it be the ignition key? I do not know where to start with this problem to be honest. i look forward to any feedback. regards Ronnie

It could be I did remove this to undo the oil cooler pipes at the oil filter end. I would have thought that the crank sensor would either work or not work but my fault seems to be intermittent. I will have a look at the sensor tomorrow aswell as other parts of the loom I may have disturbed. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

No mate they do fail and can be intermittent when they are on their way out...mostly brings up a code 19 (not sure of relevant code for the facelift) but again not always...but almost certainly...crank shaft sensor on its way out...

Thanks I will look to pick one up from my VX dealer in the am. are they expensive to fit, and yes it is easy to remove from the block, but is it easy to disconnect the other end loom side?

Thanks Lee. I check the plug at the top end first make sure I havent disturbed it when I did the oil cooler. I  did have to remove the injector rail plug for the oil cooler so stands a chance. I meant to say on my last post are they expensive to buy?

Guys update for you all. Got crank sensor from VX £50+ a free pen for my nipper... who says VX dealers are are bad!! Sunny Dudley it was did the job, rerouted cable away from exhaust as much as possible. Low and behold took car for one wicked hard drive, stopped at the garage, stopped at the cash till and it started every time. Thank you to all who left feed back and helped me out with this. Hope the fault is now cured, but no doubt time will tell. Great site i will be hooked on this now!
