windscreen gm v auto glass( heat reflective.)
« on: 11 November 2008, 09:38:28 »

bit of a long shot, as i posted about this a while ago and nobody said they had one much less replaced it.
Ive just been on the phone to autoglass  re. a GM "heat reflective" windscreen with rain sensor. They can replace with their "solar controle" screen under my policy for £75 excess. My policy does not cover the £320 genuine HR. GM replacement.

Does anyone know if this is the same/equivalent product as the GM original, and has the purple ish tint/water evaporating qualitys ? Cheers.

Ps just a last minute thought, but did i see that the Elite has "sun sensors"? What/where are they
and how will the heat reflective screen affect them, if at all?

Sun sensors are in the little nipple in the centre of the dashboard. They detect sun shining onto either side of the car and adjust the climate on that side to compensate for the heating effects.

I guess reflecting the heat will reduce the light they get, but also the need for the compensation so overall nothing to worry about.

I changed the windscreen from insurance also..They said its GM..

bu noway the quality is same as original..if you look the refraction of

glass from sideways (ie from passenger and drivers side with a high

angle) it was not the same quality as original.. :(

so check the windscreen before installation..and it will be good idea to

change the plastics around the windcsreen if they are old or damaged..

Worth paying..(my insurance dont include them) :-/

The plastics will likely be totally mullered by the gorilla they send round to change the screen. :(

TBH, I'd remove the scuttle, etc. beforehand so you have a chance of it remaining intact.

I would remove the scuttle cover and interior trims!

The non-gen screens dont fit as well and the non gen plastics and rubber seals are bloody awful!
