Possibly in an attempt to give an idea of fuel temp....but having buggered around with a variable pot in palce of the air temp sensor some moons ago.....it dont do much!
I was just wondering if the MAF had a built in air temp sensor which wasn't present on earlier cars, thus rendering an early MAF sensor incompatible. It has 2 additional pins above and beyond the power supply and sensor output, suggesting another sensor.
live data shows an IAT reading so it's measuring it somewhere. I agree it won't add a huge correction. I guess there are times when the engine is not using MAF as the primary load input, even if only in limp-home, and knowing IAT is useful then. It's also going to be a big factor in cranking and startup where heat soak might have got to the induction system, although coolant temperature would give it a big clue there too.
