OK just a simple process before you start paying out on mechanics bills. When you have had you belt fitted and of course the battery recharged try this.
Start the car after the glow-plug light has gone out, don't touch the accelerator pedal......if the battery is good and glow-plugs good it should start. If it struggles to even turn over then it's maybe the battery isn't strong enough, if it turns over OK then look towards the glow-plugs.....A trick (but only to get you running don't use it all the time) if it won't start remove air intake pipe and spray some easi-start in there, go to start it straight away after you refit the air pipe. This worked for me when my glow-plugs failed, just as a get you going fix.
Once the engine is warm then the car should start ok until cold again, if this is happening to your's then glow-plugs the likely cause.
Only telling you what the symptoms were on mine and I had my plugs replaced, others may say it's something else to check as well so any input from others is also worth checking up on.

Hi Gary.  My personal advice. Spend a lot of cash now, layback in peace tomorrow. Bad surprises you'll surely encounter:

- check those belt tension wheel. they break suddnely and leave at roadside. TIP: change all them at once, learn how to change a belt, have the wrench and a spare in your trunk. soon or later you'll need  :-/

- run (mean, go with care) to the mechanic and ask him to take off both front wheel hubs and check the bearings. There are some support screws too that may become loose, make noise and risk your life.

- check radiator lid if it's ok, else buy a new one. I used a cheaper ascona/monza, as the original omega costs 20x more (judge yourself what to do and ask an expert if in doubt)

- check fan relay (temperature) and fuse. If the fuse goes or the sensor fails, more roadside and lots of steam... : :-[

- check (test) fuel pump and its relay. Don't wait until you stop at roadside to remember (i did it...). (applies to petrol. dont know diesel)

- change all filters, specially fuel (applies to petrol. dont know diesel)
(is there a valve to flush old diesel in your car? if so, use it at least once a month to clean water from fuel... diesel is awful somtimes)

- clean idle sensor, and air intake it gets clogged. seriously. car won't idle and will burn more gas (applies to petrol. dont know diesel)

- clean / check starter motor. it gets clogged, burn its brush, etc, and there you are at roadside again... do it now, not next year

- for lights: check every fuse and relays (sorry haven't the instructions, saying my generic knowledge), clean contacts. check for grounding... some stuff wont work if not well grounded, that is tight your screws well and dont forget hanging wires...  ::) ::) ::) (i do sometimes) ::) ::) ::)

- what's this blower fan? turbo stuff or else? Im ignorant on this... Well, always check eletric wiring if its and fuse.

sorry for being so ignorant. HTH in some  way  :-/

BTW .......reversing lights, check the connections to the switch that's lefthand side (if I remember correctly) going into the gearbox. I removed the connector on mine sprayed with wd 40 refitted and they worked again. You'll have to get underneath to get at this one I'm afraid.
