Eratic Idle
« on: 19 November 2008, 16:43:51 »

Guys
My 2.5V6 R plate has only just started doing its little thing.  When stationary at lights in N, the revs will die, but at the last minute before it stalls the revs suddenly blast to 900rpm, then back to die, then back to 900.
It doesnt happen often, twice a month if that, and I have completed the Paperclip test with nothing showing up.

Any ideas ??

Very easy to take off...soak the metal bit in carb cleaner and give it a good clean out...make sure you lube the black rubber holder to make it a firm fit back into the plenum after...

if you look under the bonnet at the plenium (thing inbetween the two banks of cylinders)

on the r.hand side of it towards the front there's a cylindrical shaped thing on it's side with a black rubber holder, this is the idle control valve (to take it off you slide it out of the rubber sleeve/holder after releasing the connector on the rear of it (squeeze the two loops inwards towards the plug and tug off) then remove the inch roughly pipe to the bagpipes which will release it apart from a thin pipe... just tilt it over and spray carb cleaner into it until it seems "cleaned out" haha
