Part number help, heater hose
« on: 19 November 2008, 18:33:19 »

Sorry, this is going to be really uninteresting, but will probably save me grief at the parts counter tomorrow.  ::)

Girlfriend came home from work reporting hissing noises and higher-than-normal coolant temp.  Apparently the gauge never went over 100°C, but it usually never goes above 95, so I knew something was wrong.

Bonnet up, expansion tank empty, oh sod it.  :(

As far as I could see straight off by torchlight there's coolant been peeing all over the bellhousing.  Quick poke around once it had cooled a little (only one burn to forearm  :'() and I can get a hiss by waggling the hose that goes to the top firewall matrix connection, at the engine end.  Gonna be fun changing that...

I suppose this is my comeuppance for being smug that I have no HBV to go wrong (no aircon).

Anyway, point of thread is to ask, is 90467411 (as read off hose) a current part number?  If not, what has it been superceded by please?  Car is '96 2.0 GLS saloon, manual transmission, no aircon; top of the range... ;D

TIA folks.  :)

hiya mate...
it shouldnt be too bad with the plenium and scuttle off!
might be a bit easier still with the top inlet manifold off too!

afaik what your on about is the pipe that comes from heater matrix and goes to a t-piece which goes to the exchange pipe which is the big thick one that runs alongside the engine and goes to the hbv (and yes you do have a hbv wether you have aircon or not!)

if you tell me which pipe it is then i have one ;)
or if it's the pipe from the heater bridge to the hbv then i have a brand new one...still in the gm plastic packet lol! (part n.o 90466222)

let me know

If that part number is not current it will still be listed but shown with a superseeded number. Only way of identifying correct items usually. One of the better ideas some manufacturers have had.

Never seen anything like an HBV on this motor, but I could be wrong.
Pipe in question goes straight (well zig-zag actually) from top matrix push-on connector to a metal lump immediately under dispack.  No t-piece that I can see.

Thanks for the offer of help with parts, but it sounds like you might have stuff  more to do with 6-pots?

You're too kind Mr ngrainqey, but please don't go to the trouble, I think I'd rather put a new hose on there TBH.

With JezInBrum's reassurance, even if I get the not-so-good guy on the parts counter I should be OK.

Thanks all.  :)

P.S. Not ruling out a water-jacket to outside-world head-gasket failure BTW with 156K on the clock. Will know more tomorrow once the scuttle's off... :-/

Edit 20/11/08: To close this out, it was just the hose, split about 5mm long just where it goes over the 'bump' of the metal fitting on the engine.  Part number has been superceded by 9129563.  Ferkin lovely job getting the spring clip off...

Just realised, this car is so under-equipped it doesn't even tell you when your expansion tank is empty  >:(
