sh*t
« on: 19 November 2008, 19:40:25 »

Broke down on way home tonight.
Called the RAC, error codes 73,74 came up.
The car is running like a bag of spanners, sounds like a bad misfire.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience in getting this fixed. It points to air flow etc

All help would be grateful.
The car basically looses power and maybe someone out there has had the same problem.

Many thanks

Laurie

Re-read the error codes.

And which engine.

Does it run ny smoother (although it will be down on power) with the MAF unplugged

I saw the codes on the RAC laptop.
I got a tow back as it was in the middle of nowhere.
It is a 2.5V6, i havent disconnected the MAF, but i suspect this is a cranks sensor.

Any ideas?

if its the crank sensor on a v6 then it wont start...
but if it runs rough then it could be the maf

Read the codes.....

Never change things on a wim, leave that to the unprofessionals.....find the fault, prove the fault and then fix!  :y

ok the plot thickens. Been out to car. started no problem, no EML, idles normal but a slight flat spot when revving slowly.
Disconnect what i thk is the MAF plug, EML on and idles slightly higher.
I take it the MAF is on the pipe that goes to the airbox?

okay are we saying that the 73 and 74 codes are not always the fault?
I am slightly confused why the paperclip test will be more accurate then the RAC laptop that was connected?
If it is the MAF, what codes should i get with the Paperclip test, the same.

Will this be an intermittent problem, ie, will the car run okay one day etc and then not. Sorry to ask loads.

Thx

if you use the paperclip test then you can tell us what codes you get without having to remember- aslong as you remember to write them down :P

What I dont trust is anything RAC related.

There are some MAF codes but, no indication of cank sensor......hence it would be better to read the codes yourself as per the link and post back.

I have little faith in the breakdown services!

If it is the MAF at fault (IF) then with it disconnected it will drop to a default MAP....but will be pretty sluggish
