ABS TC lights on - No Speedo No Cruise Any Idea?
« on: 15 November 2008, 20:41:23 »

I'm sure I read someone else had this problem but I can't find it. My Omega Elite has started to show ABS and TC lights after about 10 miles. At the same time the Speedometer needle flicks to O and the miles stop clocking up. The cruise control stops working and the power steering seems to stop working too. My Vauxhall dealer initially couldn't find the fault because the lights go off when the car is restarted and everything goes back to normal. However 10 miles or so later it all kicks off again. I have had a suggestion that it's an ECU problem but also that it could be ABS Hydraulic issue (£1300 + to fix) HELP ! ! ! !

Its the ABS/TC ECU...fiddly but fixable yourself...get one from same year same model same engine size same wheel size and its a straight swap...shows how sh*t the dealers are...half the people on here can probably tell you whats wrong with your car without even looking at it and the dealer wants £80 plu VAT an hour to analyse it and giving you panic stories of something costing £1300!!

Guys, guys, thanks a lot for the info. I will try to get the number off the unit. Problem is that I'm not mechanically minded and will probably have to go to vx even to get it fixed with a 2nd hand unit. No-one else in my neck of the woods is prepared to look at it. Since I can buy another Elite for a couple of grand it's hardly worth shelling out best part of 1K to fix this one is it?

agreed mate but if you can get a 2nd hand one and have it fitted for a couple of hundred makes more sense :y

Its a fiddly job but only about 2 or 3 hours work so shouldnt set you back more than as Markey says £2-300 even at Vaux prices...if you can do without the car for a couple of days perhaps get the garage to take the unit off then have Markey send you a replacement unit special delivery once you know what part it is??

For £300 I would drive up do the job myself if none of the other members up your way know how to, but I suspect there will be someone from the forum that will be able to do this for you more locally for no more than £100 mate...for this job it certainly shouldnt cost more than £350 all in even at Vaux if you can get the replacement part from a matching car :)

What year and spec is the car??

This is good news. I've got the car booked in on Thursday at my local vx, so I'll do as you suggest and find the number. The car is a year 2000 (V) 2.5 V6 Elite. VIN 69X1167063 Engine No 08392509 in case you have anything similar. We've also a non working drivers electric leather seat if you have a spare. Thanks MC.

Not quite so simple bud :(  Must get one same part nş, off same model, same year, same spec (eng & g/box & toys) to avoid need for tech2ing.

Vx quoted me £1200 to supply new & replace when the estate abs ecu went t*ts up.  Got second hand unit from oof member (checked part nş etc same) for around £40.  B*gger to fit due to space restrictions (only needed to remove top hose though) - took about 4 hours all in - but instant result - all ok :y
