Losing Water.
« on: 02 December 2008, 21:42:44 »

This is my first real question on here. My 2.5 v6 elite is losing water, and I mean a lot of it. It started about 3 weeks ago so while it was in getting cambelts done I had them check it and they said the water pump was goosed so I got it changed. I am still losing water (about 12 litres in 2 weeks) but there is no sign. I have checked all the pipes and anywhere else I can think of. There is no evidence of it getting in to the oil (No Mayo). I'm starting to thing I am going mad. Anyone got any ideas? :-[

Any pudles underneath the car when left for a time ?
If not you have a pressure leak so look around the engine bay and post up when you find a wet area,my guess is one of the heater pipes or the HBV.

cheers. I'll have a go at making one of those pressure tester caps i saw on here and let you know. I haven't seen any puddles so could be pressure. I'll let you know.

You can also lose water through the header tank cap if the seal is buggered ... the system doesn't pressurise properly and the water evaporates at a high rate .. I know .. spent weeks trying to find a non-existent leak .. :(

Before making the pressure tester try:
With the engine running get someone try adjust the heater from hot to cold several times while you check the HBV for a leak.
The HBV is at the back of the engine on the right hand side on the V6

Ian is using the standard left/right ie as you're sat in the car. ;) Your left is as you're standing infront of the car  :y  :y  8-)
