« on: 06 December 2008, 14:01:38 »

Hi,

Got my ECU out to fit the new chip, but can't get it open? Lugs down all sides so what do I need to do?

Cheers,
Iain

Bend the lugs slightly with a screwdriver, you dont need to get them at full 90 degrees, then the whole thing should loose up and slide out from the conecter.

In that case worth buying a chip Holder and solder that in place aswell, If your not confident about de soldering yourself (its not really that difficult, with the right tools), best to find yourself a TV Radio repair shop or beer tokens for a Electronics Engineer.

If you're really stuck, I can do it, but postage etc may mean that local tv repairer is cheaper, and easier (I can't test my work, as your 427 ecu wont work in my car)

Though I am getting back up to standard since a little gift from Mr DTM :y

Glad it was useful.....nice irons those, nothing overly clever but easy to use and reliable.

Would that be a soldering iron that actually applies heat ??  rather than absorbing it ??  :)

Lol....yes.

As a note TB.....you connect those irons directly to a car battery and they still run at about 18 watts or so

Though I guess its better through an inverter if necessary ;)
