Dodgy ignition/key fob.
« on: 03 December 2008, 14:20:06 »

2003 V6 - Started this morning (very cold as in freezing) pulled out of drive, stopped to go back in house and as I removed the key from ignition the hook bit came away from the clever bit. Put it back together but car would’nt start. Turns over but won’t fire. Got spare key and “phew” it starts. So, new battery at lunch time but still no good. Ok to start with spare but neither work “on test” ie, ignition lights on – press lock – nothing happens to central locking. Persevered with faulty key immediately after running it with good one and it eventually fired (but reluctantly, had to keep the revs up). Both fobs are two button type but the one that works has a little red light so presumably it is the “master”. Central locking and alarm have been a bit hit and miss recently. Any Ideas folks? :-?

I did some more delving about here (oof) and checked out the pedal test - result: 1614 =

P1614 Wrong Transponder Key Immobiliser
P1614 Immobiliser Wrong Signal Received Immobiliser
P1614 Immobiliser NotProgrammed Immobiliser

How do I rectify these? Main Stealer? :(

I had similar when I changed the battery in remote blipper, turned out that a little chip fell out that is only glued in to key. one of the lights on the dash flashed which is how I found the actual fault

Thanks Paul and Mark - I did have a quick look although I thought Mark was having a laugh. I've just done a spot the difference with the two fobs and can see the bit you mean - it's tiny. :D

Ps dont even think about going to vx with this. If you get stuck pm The Boy on here, he can supply a chip and prog with his lovely tech2. Vx take the p...

SORTED !!!
10 minutes sweeping the drive with a small brush and pan - found it.
For those not in the know, the chip is like a small chunk of macadum and yes, the drive is an old macadum one!
Thanks folks. ;D ;D :y

3 in 1 would work quite well.....Lizzie Zoom uses KY but a light oil is probably best
