Page 176 of the Omega Manual states:

"Vehicles with automatic transmission
should be towed facing forwards only and
must not be towed faster than 50 mph
(80 km/h) or further than 60 miles (100 km).
If the transmission is defective, or if the above
speed or distance is to be exceeded, the drive
shaft must be disconnected from the rear axle
or the rear axle raised off the ground. In the
latter case, secure the steering wheel to
maintain a straight-ahead position".

Yes, in this situation as they would have been liable for any damage caused to transmission systems if they had got this wrong, with a retraction being made that never transpired. ;)

Did they write this at the same time they initially declared a cambelt kit would last 80,000 miles?

Wouldn't chance it personally.

But they retracted that later and stated 40k, but the towing up to 50 still stands no-matter if I would do it or not. ;) ;)

Do bear in mind that cambelt kits are in constant use in every omega in the country, so if they hadn't changed the interval it would have been big trouble. - but in comparison, it's not very often someone tows one over that many miles at that speed - hence the damage does not occur so often.

I still personally don't think it sounds right. Especially when the prop takes a few mins to whip off!

I don't think the "if it was wrong they would have retracted it" opinion is all that valid in this case.... just my opinion though :y

Personally I would take the prop off, its just not worth the hassle if something did go wrong, for something thats so easy to do there is no need to decide, the prop is gonna have to be disconnected to change the box anyways.
