Auto Box rolling on hillstart.
« on: 12 December 2008, 20:39:24 »

My autobox allows the car to roll on hillstarts. I have noticed it does this in both forward and reverse gears (I was parking in reverse on a steep hill).

Sorry to be dim about this but is this normal?

What's the likely cause. I know the fluid hasn't been changed for at least two years and although there is none on the drive it looks like I am losing a little fluid from the gearbox/engine join.

Thanks in advance for any help

If the gradient is too steep the car WILL roll :)

As said, on an increasing slope it will roll eventually.
Any other symptoms? any slipping or banging under normal conditions?

Ar25(250 nm of torque) boxs are week anyway,if thats what you have? but Ar35s(350nm) are much stronger and breakers on here have them for a very reasonable price . So dont panic if its playing up. Either check, top up, or change the atf and filter.6 or 7 litres of Dexron 3 and 2 sump gaskits, change or clean filter if it looks in good nic. Hth

The cars isn't really playing up but I've only noticed the roll recently, admittedly it was quite a steep gradient.

How can I tell what model of gearbox I have fitted? (facelift 2000 W 2.5 V6 Elite)

I assume you mean when on tick over it rolls back?
Try putting the air con on the revs lift then and may not roll back at all  :y
