iirc
2 sumps off, after draining what you can throught the level plug...
I undid some, and loosened one side so you can 'slosh' more fluid out
replace / clean filter
clean off old gaskets
clean out sumps, hoping for no thrust washer
new gaskets / instant gasket, and refit.

Fill till fluid starts coming out level plug, use a 500cc syringe, or garden sprayer for easy fill methods.
start car, go through all gears, with car running and flat, top up again (or do jacked up, then lower back to flat)

go for a drive, then top up again.

I would then check level again after 1-2 weeks to ensure full distribution.

to reiterate, after each fill, car must be level, with the plug out, and engine running to get the correct level.

.. and the threads for the sump bolts are a bit fragile IME so probably worth cleaning off the threadlock with a tap and die before reassembling.

I had a go at mine about a year ago. Drove up onto my ramps on the driveway and removed all the bolts but simply could not shift the sumps. Mind you it had never been off in 7 years. So gave up and took it to the local garage where they did the job for 2 hours labour using my parts. If you have a pit or lift it should be OK, but struggling on your back waiting for 5 litres of ATF to fall on your face is no fun.

BTW, new ATF and filters improved my gearbox dramatically and a subsequnet gearbox software upgrade made it even smoother. Good luck with it.

I did mine on stands in Timbuk's old dirty unit.

I have very short hair, still took about 7 washes to get clean!

Was a great day though, even with such a messy job

The thing I remember was the timeconsuming job of scrapping off the old bits of gasket from the mating surfaces.  Took forever with the added pleasure of ATF dripping in my face..

funny, I don't remember that bit...  ;) ;D

For some reason I don't remember, it was a couple of days before I refitted the sump.  It was still dripping two days later.
Well worth doing though :y
