Can anyone tell me how to bipass or dissable the immobiliser on my 2.5  CD auto V6(1st reg Jan 1999)?
I've  tried all different tips on this site to fix my intermittent starting problems. As a last resort I now need to try this.

Does the engine light flash following the failure to start....if no then its not an immobiliser fault!

Yes. When turning over. tried replacing crank sensor. worked for two days then refused to start.
Trouble is when left for a day or so will start ok!

It would appear that you've lost 8 valves somewhere!

oops!!!!! yes it is 16v
(the sensor was the camshaft sensor. A friend fitted it for me)

um.. 2.0 = 16v
        2.5 = 24v
        2.6 = 24v
        3.0 = 24v
        3.2 = 24v

never seen a 2.5 16v lol, maybe thats why it wont start, it takes the ecu 2 days to find the other 8

well that was all very helpful. never having been on a site such as this before so I did not know what to expect. I do now.
Having spoken to an ex-vauxhall mechanic I have been advised it is likely to be the crankcase sensor and that it is possible the previously fit piece was not up to scratch.Will get a genuine part this time.
Never did find out about the immobiliser.Ho Hum

Hello there, Let me advise a fellow spirit, and cut to the chase. There's some good guys can do Tech 2 diagnostic and can be well trusted they are after all fellow Forum members. But 1st look up the paper clip test and its very likely you can succeed and do your own diagnostic. Promise you your Omega's dying to tell you whats wrong its only a communication problem!!

Again...unless the ECU light was actualy flashing, it was not teh immobiliser....the crank sensor will cause poor starting.

IF the ECU light was falshing then check the small transponder chip in the key is snug and tight in its little groove.

Or is even still there!   That's what the problem with my Astra was, the chip from one of the keys was lying on my drive!

well I am glad I posted my question. After all the advice given I replaced the crank sensor with a genuine vauxhall part (just to be on the safe side!). You can imagine how I felt when I turned it over and it started first turn!!!! Since then it has been running like a dream. So a big thanks to all you experts.

Think youve probably learned the value of some genuine parts as well, some aftermarket stuff should be banned!
