Starting up noise
« on: 21 December 2008, 14:16:41 »

I have had my 2ltr Omega for a few years now and have had no major problems. I don't really know much about cars so the local garage does all my maintainance, but it is over 20 miles away and closed for the weekend.

My problem is this...when I start the car from cold, a fan usually comes on for a minute or so then stops. Today, instead of the fan coming on, there was a horrific crunching sound and the whole car was vibrating. This stopped after a minute and the car ran well after that.

Could anyone advise me of what this could be?

sounds like a very dead secondary air injection pump, common problem on the 2.0's just unplug it, its not needed.  :y

Thanks tunnie, hope that's all it is. As a dumb female, could you tell me where I can locate this plug?  :-[

Wiring connector is under the plastic wheel arch liner of the passenger side front wing, as I recall.

Will need to get my sons disconnected some dry day as it sounds like a jet taking off.....   ::)

LOL -- mine sounds like that for 30 seconds or so on start up --- I have a replacement -- but quite like the sound -- very impressive !!!!  Will change it when (if) it starts to grind and crunch  ;D

ON my 2.0 ('94) it was under the front bumper , passenger side.  Reachable but a bit fiddly when you couldn't see what you are doing - best to drive up on a kerb or ramps/stands.
