i have read here and there about vectra aluminium cam covers as a direct replacement for the plastic ones on the omega. are the 2.5v6 ones the same size as 3.0 ones? and what are the pros and cons of having aluminium ones? i was wondering as was considering getting some off the scrapper but wondered if it was worthwhile.

From what I gater, if torqued down correctly, and with clean brathers due to regular maintainece then there should be no reason to change them.

The Vectra covers will fit, albeit the oil filler will be in the wrong place.

If Vectra covers are correctly assembled with new VX cam cover gaskets and breathers not cleaned, a fubar front crankseal gasket will result, which is loads more work than refitting the standard covers wth gen VX gaskets as per the guide, and clear breathers...

Save your cash, follow the guides....

i replace the oil every 4/5000 miles and the breathers are done every 18 months or so including full plenum clean inside and out. i just wondered if there was any benefit in having ally ones.

in short... there's no difference dan.
the ally ones look better if you polish them up nicely though
and making sure the breathers are clear is a must, maybe every 6 months instead of your 18 (i'd rather do that than have to change the crankseal

tbh i fancied some just to polish up, really is upto you if you want to buy them but they're not worth buying tbh (hence why i havnt bought some)

are the alloy vectra ones off of a c25xe? or the x25xev or whatever its called?

yep dan it's the cav version of the x25 so it'd be the c25xe

hmmn so the oil filler wouldnt be in the wrong place for my cav then, just for the omega... cam covers and breathers need doing on that soon anyway so maybe i might 'uprate' them at the same time...

dont fit alloy covers on an omega tpita to top oil up and if breathers get clogged goodbye crank seal which is an bustard to fit !!

yup think i'll steer clear on the omega, there arent any problems with it as it is anyway. cam cover gaskets need looking at on the cav so maybe i'll put them on there if the oil filler is in the same place?

they should be okon the cav dan but still risk blowing the crank seal
