Cold start issues.

Hello,

My 2.5 '99 pre facelift Elite has been having trouble with the very cold weather.  Normally cold starts are fine, but when the ambient temp is below 0 C it takes 3 or 4 goes to get her going.  The battery is strong and once running is is smooth and sweet.

My experience of cars is mainly '80's stuff, BMW's and Jags, so I would normally suspect a Therotime switch or the 7th injector.  I know that later BMW's used a longer duration during cold cycle and only had 6 injectors, is this the case with an X25XE?  Also is there a sensor that only cuts in for extreme cold starting?

Thanks for your help, BTW the car is garaged, so I am sure it is a cold not a frost issue.

It's the extended pulse system that the X25XE uses; 7th injectors etc went out with the loss of the old L-Jetronics..

There are several reasons why the really cold temperature could cause start issues, and also even more that are just a coincidence.

There's only one ECU temperature sensor, which should still work fine at temperatures much lower than we get here.

Does (for some strange reason) the Engine ECU light flash after a failed start?  Will it fire if you keep the starter going for longer?

It will fire if I keep cranking.  There are no extraneous dash lights involved.

Read the fault codes anyway.....and report back.....possible code 19!

Thank god the cold start injectors are done away with!

LOL the worst thing about 7th injectors is where manufacurers used to put them.  BMW M30 engines spring to mind!
