Washers not working....
« on: 07 January 2009, 13:38:32 »

All of a sudden - coincedence with cold weather ? - my washers front and rear have stopped working.....applies to both windscreen and headlamps.....

Was low on fluid, so filled up this morning and noticed some icy deposits on the dipstick.....but even after an engine-warming run there is still no water.

Turned engine off and ran the wipe/wash for front and rear and cannot hear any pump running....

So, has pump died (possibly 'burned' trying to push past frozen blockage ?) or something like a fuse ?

Pointers gratefully received  ::)

Fuse 3 for windscreen, fuse 26 for headlamps :)

But could I have inadvertently 'blown' the pump etc. as a result of them being frozen at one stage ? The temps now are above freezing and I have chucked in about 2.5lt of (ready-mixed) screenwash and still nothing :(

yes you could have done , maybe you  have , try putting some hot/warm water in the bottle just to make sure , the water could be frozen up the pipes ! just try to eliminate  the frozen thing first , then go for fuzes  :y

Now there's a plan......but I kinda filled the whole tank up (doh !!) and there is no space - can it be drained ?

 well im sure you can get some hot water in there by just pouring it out of the kettle in to the bottle, it will warm it up even though its full !
pour warm water over the washer jets and piping as well , eliminate the obvious  first , then go in deeper  :y

I have the Elite and the washers freeze quite easily, bit disappointing as they're supposed to be heated, the headlamp washers are a bit useless as they take ages to unfreeze :'(

no problems with mine in sunny Berkshire.(thats done it)
But then my drive is sheltered a little by the house/garage, and rarely gets frost on the screen,which may make a degree or 2 of difference? also use quite strong screen wash in winter...

You haven't got enough screen wash in then! My crappy Astra hasn't frozen, but there's about 25% screen wash in there.
