Auto gearbox question
« on: 09 January 2009, 09:35:11 »

I have just read elsewhere that the autobox gets a signal from the altenator and if the alternator is playing up even slightly it will cause the gb to go wobble.  Is this true?

It gets a signal in that it's powered from the 12v output of the alternator but that's as far as it goes.

I guess if the supply voltage was unstable or too high or low as a result of an alternator fault the autobox could malfunction but there's no specific signal from the alternator.

Cheers Kevin, I wonder if that could be the cause of my woes as I know the alternator is on the way out.  There is a fair bit of dimming of headlights at varying revs, etc so I wonder if that is causing the gb to drop a gear between 3 and 4.....
