Creamy Oil Filler Pipe....

Hi

Just he cheked the oil level on the miggy and opened the filler cap which is covered in a creamy substence?

Can I just clean it off and does this indicated an underlying problem?

Help!!!

norm m8 if u do short trips the engine dont get hot enough to clean it off its is also made worse but different makes of oil

Just on my last car the garage said that this was a classic sign of Head Gasket failiure??

i'd guess short journeys and shitty oil.  v6 hg does not fail like that, in fact the v6 hg very, very rarely fails.

do be concerned, though, as your breathers will be in same state, and thats bad news.....

Recommend cleaning the mayo off the filler cap, do a breather clean out, THEN change the oil.

A good blast up the motorway wouldn't hurt, either!

So if I need to clean the breathers I need to remove the plenum.  Is this a job for a non-mechanic type person like myself? If not can anyone recomend a good garage in the Wiltshire area that could do this for me???

Yes - removing the plenum is a simple job to do, with minimal tools. I did it without any mechanical experience and just a halfords toolkit - I went on to do the camcover gaskets and the cambelt too!

Just take it carefully and slowly, noting the connections to it as you go. The only bit that is fiddly is the breather box at the rear of the engine, drivers side.

Breather clean is not that difficult ... allow a couple of hours max... whereabouts in Wiltshire are you ??? I may be able to assist ???

Vx oil does seem to be less prone to the mayo effect than other oils, particularly that crappy castrol shite!

From memory, Entwood has a TC card, so may be able to assist in getting genuine parts at very good prices.  If not, others in Swindon area have Trade Club.

You will need some Torx tools, as most manufacturers use torx now
