Changing the cam cover gaskets and when I removed the spark plug leads there was loads of oil around the spark plugs. Is this normal?

I assume I have to clear this out before removing the spark plugs (changing them too), will I get better access to it once I have removed the cam covers? Is this oil due to the cam cover gaskets being shot?

Easier to get at with the covers off.....mop as much out as you cna and then remove the plugs and clean and dry the plug bores.

Some oil will go in the bores but it wont matter.

The oil will be due to the cam covers....and dont forget the breathers

Had a look at the breathers today and strangely they are clear.

I find that wedging a piece of kitchen towel around the plug helps to soak up the oil - leave it for 5 mins to get the best moppage.

Had a look at the breathers today and strangely they are clear.

Mine were as well. I guess that the rubber gaskets just deteriorate over time. My plugs were swimming in oil!
