2001 2.6 CD estate alarm keeps going off
« on: 18 January 2009, 16:44:41 »

Hi,
Need some help here. Got the above Omega- great car. just started having some problems with the alarm going off.  It seems to be raandom. I have checked all windors and doors closed properly. I used to get a chirp sound when you turned the engine off. I always thought this was to remind you to lock the car and set the alarm. I can fiind no reference to it in my car manual. I read a thread somewhere else that this sound was to let you know the battery for the alarm sonder was low and required replacment? Any feed back would be helpful.

Certainly sounds like the rechargeable batteries in the power sounder are going down, if not done altogether.  Thats what the 'chirp' noise indicates.

You ensured that theres no air fresheners dangling inside that would cause movement, otherwise its usually the bonnet switch thats the culprit causing random alarms.  Check that as well to ensure its properly locating the bonnet or cabletie it down to keep the switch closed.

(But think its the batts in the power sounder....)   ;)

A recent thread here.  I found moisture on the sounder plug which might be the culprit, although I am not entirely confident and expect to have to replace the sounder batteries if I can break it open.

[edit]That didn't last long - put it back on the car yesterday, tested the alarm many times and overnight no problem.  Today - off it goes for no reason and it won't turn off until I start up and run the engine for a few moments.  I'm going to take it off, split it and check the internal battery voltages.  >:( [/edit]
