Tyres - Which brand??
« on: 19 January 2009, 12:38:57 »

Hi all,

MOT booked for thursday, tyres close to the limit, I can guess what's coming.......

So in anticipation, does anyone have any views on which brand is best for the miggy??

Am looking for all the good stuff, good grip, longevity, minimal road noise, cheap...

He doesn't want much, I hear you say.  :y :y :y

I've got goodyears and they're brilliant. I can do over a ton and not feel it ::). Really quiet aswell. No noticable wear on them in 7000 miles.

But I dont know how expensive they were as they were on the car when I got it :)

I've got Nexens on my 3.2 and seem to be fine (previous owner put them on).  I have had Falken and Khumho before - both pretty reasonable.

Do you get any problem with tramlining or car moving about on uneven road surfaces? ::)

I'm running Accelera Alpha's on mine... Recommended by a mate with a tyre place as good budget tyres. So far so good... Seem to be pretty grippy and rarely let go...

I say rarely because I've had the TC cut in a few times recently pulling out of a certain junction with a degree of enthusiasm ::) ::) ::) but I'm putting that down to a coating of that crappy new salt they're using which seems to make the roads slick when it rains :o :o :o

Other than that they have been superb and I'd have no worries with using them again. They are directional and even have rim protection on them :y :y :y Cost me about £50/corner all in

I get a little tramlining as I come away from Felixstowe Docks but have just put that down to the surface being completely fubared... You can see the groves from the lorries and they're at least 10-15 mm deep :o :o :o

Urgh! Couldn't wait to get rid of mine. Fortunately, I'd shredded them in 4k, so didn't have to tolerate them for too long ;D

I personally prefer michelins, altho a tad on the dearer scale, durability is good and grip on the sub standard roads up here is v good.

depends how long you are going to keep the car for or how long you are going to keep your current set of alloys.

I seem to be in a habit of buying new tyres then changing my wheels to a bigger size and starting all over.

But size isn't everything! ;)
