How to connect HID's to early model
« on: 20 January 2009, 16:08:04 »

I have taken the original headlight out but need to know where to connect the wires for the ballast pack to?  There is a brown and a yellow wire.

Was quite fiddly to get them out, had to take the washer jet off the bottom which I think might be slightly broken, any tips on getting them back in?

Cheers,

Richard

is this retrofitting hids?

if so you also need the front & rear suspension sensors and the headlight washer system & Xenon ECU to make them road legal!

the xenon headlights have a self leveling system so the lifter motors are also all different

breaking the washer mount only happens when you force the headlight past the bumper which should be removed!

I couldnt find a guide so looked in Haynes how to remove headlights and it did not mention removing the bumper.  How do I go about removing the bumper?

Have all the people upgrading to HID's been fitting headlight ECU etc then?  I have washer jets and self leveling already fitted.

if you have self lvl suspension then your ok! you only need the sensors and ecu if you dont have self leveling suspension!

bumper is quite easy to take off the haynes book explains how but it makes removing the lights so much easier!

the balast packs have a single pair of 12v feeds from the headlight switch thinking about it now you could use a multimeter and work out which 2 wires in the normal plug do the dipped beam cut them off and get hold of a set of balast connectors and rewire the dipped beam feads up to the new connector and hey presto!

thats the way i would go about it!

most people fitting HID's get hold of them cheap and nasty kits off eBay and fit them into non hid lenses!

btw if you have your old headlights ill buy the adjusters off you if there not broken! thats if you want to sell them!

Where do I get the yellow wire from?  Which connector on the cars loom do I connect to the yellow on the ballast plug?  And the brown wire from the ballast plug need to go to earth?

ballast pack yellow and brown wires connect to the plug which plugs into the headlight unit (believe its three wires connected on the hid plug) and you need to link the live(yellow) to the live wire into the plug and the brown(earth) to the earth on that same plug
