Just bought 3.0,do they all do this? (temperature)
« on: 23 January 2009, 07:33:42 »

Hi there!

I have just bought a 2000MY 3.0V6 Elite (or is it an MV6?!).

The temperature gauge sits around 80 degrees in normal driving, which seems quite low to me, and when sat in traffic it goes up to 90-95 degrees, never really gets hot and gets up to the 80 degrees pretty quick, the heaters blow hot air all the time and pretty quickly after a cold start up.

I have had LOTS of cars in my time but the temp gauge on this seems to move around quite a lot compared with other cars, is this normal for these cars or should I replace the thermostat? I know its a bit of a pain and but dont mind doing it, it just doesnt seem obvious that its gone at the moment.

Any help/opinions would be gratefully recieved!

Thanks

Simon

It,s an Omega ...they are a law unto themselves...just make sure it doesn,t go into the red and that the coolant is nice and fresh..worth a full flush out and replace with a 50/50 mix just to be sure.

Yes was going to ask what shape. My face lift sits at 80 or just above, depending on weather. But not seen it as high as 90/95 at any point. Just wonder if its a face lift, if the all fans are working correctly.

Yeah, facelifts do seem to run a bit cooler.

My 3.0 (facelift) runs around there too.....rarely gets much hotter than 80~odd, except for when the HBV died  ;D

Have to admit, I always thought it a little low too, but there you go  :y

Thanks for the quick replies!!!

yes its a facelift model, is the general concensus its ok until it gets a little bit to close to the red?

I havent left it idling long enough for the fans to cut in yet, will try the weekend, thanks for the help!

Afaik, there is a slight difference in calibration in the range on the gauge between the pre and face lifts clocks. Not sure if the actual temp. in the engine is any different tbh, anyway...

Too answer your Q. Yes, for me, i would be happy with the lower temp. but concerned that 90/95 was a bit high.
Also note you engine is different to mine, but i would be checking the fan fuses/bridging fan contacts to see if it all works...i think.
See what others say.

As a number 95 degrees isnt that bad, I am a designer at Triumph and we regularly see 115 degrees up to 125 on climatic testing, it was just the fact the gauge moves around a lot that bothered me and 80 degrees seemed low!

seems to be common though!

My 3.0 Elite does the same, hovers around 80 when its cold outside, up to 85 if its warmer. When sat in traffic it will slowly climb up to ~92 then one of the fans cuts in half speed to bring it back down to 85.

I did have a fuse blow which prevented the low speed cut in , then it went to about 95 and both fans came in a full speed. They make hell of a noise and the revs dip when they come in but they cool things down very quickly.

best bet, get it warm then sit on the drive with a few revs on to slowly push the temp up, see if/when the fans cut in just to make sure its all working

by high i mean in relation to "normal" for a face lift.

So, a Trumpet designer... Did a good job on that 695! Makes a lovely noise. :-)

Yes 675, sorry.... Norton! A revival? I thought some American(?) company bought the name and shelved the whole thing after the rotary engine didnt quite take off. Have they sold the name on or are they pumping the cash in themselves?

Pre-face 3.0V6 - 90 seems the norm on a run - lower on the motorway, maybe upto 95 if sitting in traffic for a while.
