my 2000 elite is lumpy/bumpy in 1st gear!! help!!!
« on: 23 January 2009, 18:36:36 »

Hi everyone, new to the forum and tried to post this already but in the wrong place!! So,to everyone kind enough to say hello to me there and reply...thankyou. Ok,to the matter in hand.....
I have just bought my 2nd omega 2.5 v6 elite. This one is a w reg, year 2000,and was driving fantastic until couple days ago. Now its kinda lumpy pulling away in 1st gear( its an automatic by the way). Once it gets into 2nd and so on its fine. After a while driving it seems to settle down but even then if im sitting at lights the rev counter jumps up and down and it feels like its gonna cut out, although so far it never has. Never had any problems at all with my 97 omega and i know next to nothing about engines! (sorry!!). So if anyones had similar problems or can advise on whats causing this and how to fix i would be greatful. Thanks in advance,cam2502.

welcome cam,
sounds like one for the "big guns" on here tbh. But they will probably ask, when you say in first gear, any chance you mean at tick over and then once gas pedal is applied its fine? In which case i would clean the idle controle valve.

Or, as you say does the problem continue when accelerating...and then once in second the problems gone? In which case......i really dont know.

Does it do the same when manually selecting the gears, as opposed to leaving it in D?

first thing to do is clean and lube the icv as in the guides then check for oil in plug wells !  :y

Hmmm, AFAIK the icv doesn't tend to bung up with crud on the V6.
It'd most likely stall if this valve was sticking.

Any idea when the fuel filter was last changed? Could be choked causing low fuel pressure...

How old are the spark plugs? You may have a misfire under load if they're worn. Plugs & leads have a hard life in the V6. Do you have the burning oil smell? If so the plug wells may be full of oil causing arcing / corona ringing.

Also worth a look at EGR valve - may be sticking slightly open causing flat spot.

I'd be looking at all the "low cost / no cost" areas first, but IME sounds like ignition.

Does the EML light come on? Do you have any fault codes?
