Whats the BAR rating for a 3.0 FPR?
« on: 25 January 2009, 09:30:06 »

As above, whats the max rating on a 3.0 Fuel Pressure Regulator?? 3.8??

Anyone got a full list of the ratings of the various engine FPRs?  :y

Whatever it says on it - FPRs are usualy either 2.5 or 3.0 bar but depending on the units it may be listed as 25/30 or even 250/300.  I think there's some VW's that run at 4.8bar...

BTW, any increase in fuel pressure doesn't directly relate to the amount of fuel injected and the figure is only a baseline figure (i.e. at WOT)

V6 is 3.0 bar standard, 2.6/3.2 are about 3.6 bar.

4.0 bar is pointless as the pump is only rated to 3.8Bar peek!

Found it written on there, 3.0 bar as stated lol

Just for info really when people ask me...whats the advantage of a 3.6 fpr over a 3.0 one?? Allows the pump to pump fuel faster?? Allows more pressure so in theory more bhp??

Absolutely NOT !!!  The ECU controls the injector opening time to give the correct mass of fuel, if the fuel pressure is higher the injector is open for less time, if the pressure is lower the injector is open longer.

The ONLY reason for fitting a higher pressure fuel system is to overcome problems after other modifications that are resulting in the injectors being open for their maximum time, so insufficient fuel is being injected.

Don't waste your money if you have a standard setup .. the fuel pump is already delivering more fuel than the system needs, and the FPR is doing its job

.. Absolutely NOT !!! ...

Or as someone once said - an engine is not a bonfire. ( more fuel does not equal more power).

The injectors will have been sized to deliver the correct amount of fuel for the engine, with a little in reserve, at the design fuel pressure. If you increase the pressure, the fuel pump will be working harder and in the extreme may burn out, and the ECU will just trim back the fuel to compensate anyway.

All the V6 units are 3.0 bar expect the 2.6/3.2 which were 3.6 (ish from memory).

It will do bugger all for power (which is no surprise!), it might save you short term if you have tuned the engine else where and the injectors are running out of flow the power increase.

In reality, the 4.0 bar jobs will more than likely screw the spra pattern for the injectors up and, as already stated, the fuel pump is only 3.8bar rated so a 4 bar will do jack (other than possible bugger the pump up!!

It makes me laugh because its a standar load of Courtney bull...its a closed loop setup so the ecu will back the injector duration off if ay extra faul flows.

It might give a small increase on WOT (open loop) but, I VERY much doubt it!
