V6 oil cooler removal

I'm trying to get to the oil cooler pipes by the filter to slacken them off.  I have the cartridge type oil filter and it's in the way.  Does it come off?  If so, how?
Haynes helpfully shows a canister type that doesn't obstruct access. Please?

Remove oil cap and filter.

Look inside the metal case and you will see a bolt that has either a large hex head or takes a torx insert.

Undo this and it lifts off.

Thanks.  I'll give it a try.
I like the idea of looking inside it!  The car's on axle stands and even getting a mirror in is going to be tight.

ADDED LATER - 12mm hex for the record.

Dont use an open-ended spanner on the pipe unions, if they are tight (and they usually are) then you will distort the nuts.
You need to use a hex crows foot spanner or a flare nut spanner.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll have to see about that one.

I'm wondering why they needed to stick an oil cooler in there in the first place!  It hardly seems good practice to feed the oil out of the block, back in, then out again, then back in again.  I know it will be a cool(er) spot but what a price. :)
