Well I have tried everything to get them out but they do not want to move.

I have put it all back together without these bolts in the hope that I might get away with 5 in the crank pulley and 2 in the water pump pulley?

I am really going to have to learn to not be like desperate dan when working on my car.

I seriously wouldnt trust 2 bolts in the waterpump pulley, got to think how fast that turns and the pressure the tension of the belt puts on it.

Id rather spend a few more hrs trying to fix it, than the days it would take to fix if it came away

I thought that myself. I am seriously tempted to go and buy another water pump( seeing how they are so cheap) and just put that on. That will cure that problem.

Will I get away with 5 in the crank pulley?

Yeah I would change the waterpump, for the sake of the cost diffference between that and the belt coming off.

have you tried taking the pulley off to remove whats left of the stud?

without the pressure of the pulley round the stud it should come out with your fingers, when I undone mine all I had to do was crack them and they came out by hand.

waterpump - if its sheared inside the thread hole, normally enough thread behind the pump - where the bolt exits - to get a grip on it.

Crank pulley you'll probably get away with 5 but I wouldn't trust the water pump on 2

If you can't get them out then just change it!! Then keep the one you've just taken off, get the bolts out and use it next time

Tried taking the pulleys off but still don't want to come out. I will take the waterpump off tomorrow and see if i can get the bolt out with it off the car, if not I will replace the waterpump again.

I haven't got a clue what to do with the crank. Is there any sort of special tool that I could buy?

the tool (easy out) is easy to get, its drilling the hole in the remains of the stud thats the problem due to the length of the drill with drill bit in.

removal of radiators would allow you enough room, but do you really want to do that? there has to be an easier way, surely there must be another member near you that caould look and give some advice/help ?

my crank pulley has 5 bolts as one head had snapped off before i got to it, and has been that way for a couple of months now, godknows how long its been like it. So you "should" bo ok there imho...

water pump however....as said

Right water pump coming back off tomorrow and being replaced if bolt still will not come out.

Crank pulley I will leave and keep an eye on it over the next few months.

ps, have you tried screwing it in, if there is room for it to come out the other side/back? even if its just to get it started/moveing.....? just a thought....

Tried that Chris. I think once it is off the car there will be plenty more room to get some mole grips in the back and get it out that way!

leaving a crank bolt out will cause no problems at all, and i doubt that the water pump bolt(1 only) will make a lot of difference, the pulley is supported by the centre spigot of the pump and the bolts merely stop it spinning/falling off!!

All sorted. Stripped back down, took the water pump off, got bolt out, put it all back together again.

Took about an hour and a half! Glad I did it though!
