Flushing out heater matrix
« on: 29 January 2009, 09:13:25 »

Changing the HBV has made no difference to the temperature in the cabin so I guess I will have to flush out the heater matrix.

As the pipes at the back are a pain in the arris to get to, can I not disconnect them at the front of the car and then flush through these? :y

I found the pipes where they go through the bulkhead reasonably easy to get to.
On my previous mig I had to run the hose through it 4 times over a period of about 3 weeks before it finally stayed permantly clear.
Cost me a fortune in anti freeze  ;D
Also if it is full of rubbish it means you are clearing out on to the floor rather than just pushing in to another part of the system to later return to the heater matrix

not too bad to get to dont have to remove any other parts ! take pipes off then push hose pipe on end of one then the other and keep swopping them till water runs clear from pipes happy days should then follow  ;D

Try using a disolved dishwasher tablet in there. My Dad had a certain amount of success with his Granada with one. Having said that .... a new matrix sorted his heating problems  :( ...... 20 min job though! :y :y

We flushed ours recently after changing the radiator, it's definitely worth swapping hoses back and forth on the 2 stub pipes to clear the crap out of the matrix, mine now blows nice and hot and the engine temp is stable too...

Asda Smart Price cola (not the sugar free diet stuff) - cleaned a radiator out on one of my cars beautifully!  Sorted for 22p..just don't forget to rinse it out thoroughly afterwards though!

Failing that, a couple of sterident tablets work well..
