TheBoy just wondering if I could borrow you for 20 mins one night, as just wondering now if the AA man was right about the diagnosis of the broken bottom end. Actually I'll PM you also.

if you are taking the lump out of a donor car thats going to be scrapped, instead of unplugging the donor car wiring just cut them leaving plugs & wires behind, that way you can match up like for like on the re-fit :y, another thing is if the AA man said the bottom end had gone did your oil light come on? as a knackered bottom end will normally mean very low or no oil pressure ;)

If its an auto, I'd recommend taking the gearbox out with the engine - trying to realign the engine onto an autobox attached to the car is a right bastard.
Easier that trying to line up clutch splines in my case -just got the angle right (jacked the box right up to the body and she slipped straight in (ooh err missus!!).  Getting the bellhousing bolts lined up was a little trickier, but still only took a few minutes.

ste_bla - sorry, can't offer any physical assistance as a) not local and b) spending pretty much all of February abroad working..  Swapping a 4-pot is pretty easy though - with a couple of helping hands, its a day job i reckon with sufficient tea and bacon butties...(hint..)
