THANKS TO ALL for the post. I have a fighting chance now !
Any advice on fitting the new paper filter - Is there a knack or anything to watch our for ? I believe there is an O ring ? is a Patern filter part OK, or is it best to use a OEM one from VX ?
How many times does the metal cover spin off in ? not done one before so just want to know what to expect really.
Any advice on oil to use - I assume 10/40 Semi.
Thanks again,
Andy.
The filter drops into the cover, I can't remember
but I think it locates on a few pins on the filter .... or is that my bike?
. Don't cross the threads, they're quite fine. The 'O' ring sits on the outside of the cover. Don't over tighten it when you fit it. 15Nm is more or less hand tight.
just did mine yesterday so it is fresh in the mind. there is a bi o ring that goes around the filter cap (the bit you unscrew), smear with oil when you replace it as it will make it easier to tighten the cap. The filter clips in the filter cap - usually quite firmly so it is dead easy to refit. when refitting you'll be able to turn the cap about 2-3 times easily, you'll then feel the o ring start to compress so get a wrench on it. Do not over tighten. that goes for the sump plug as well.
Really it is dead easy
as to oil I'd go for 10/40 semi synth from VX. change it every 5-6k as well
Best bet is to get a 4 pack of oil on trade club (you'll need a TC card from someone on here or join autobahnstormers) , should be about £9 a can (but i havent' bought any for a while as I stocked up a year or two ago).
