help!
« on: 02 February 2009, 14:39:29 »

Iam completely confused, i have a omega 2.6 v6 auto lpg, its one of the best cars ive ever driven no issues for the first 5000 miles,i decided to get the cam belt done after finding out in this forum that it needs doing every 40k. when it went in for the cam belt the car was brilliant. the moment the belt was done and i went to pick the car up, it was idling rough and there was some misfiring at idle. i asked the mechanic to pull the covers off. pulled the covers off and saw the timing was out by a touch. he put that right and the car is still the same misfiring at low revs and shaking. he told me to change the plugs which i did, checked for oil in the wells, all clear, he said he checked the coils on cyclinder 1 3 5 and said it had oil in them and he replaced them but iam not sure whether he did. anyway the problem still exists. iam not driving the car for fear of blowing it up. the next thing he told me was to get the gas re-calibrated since he pulled the pipes off to do the belt, but i know thats a load of bullshit since ive been driving gas cars for 4 years and i know u only need re-calibration if the battery is disconnected for a while. PLus the car is acting the same on petrol and oh yea the engine management light is on. iam throughly gutted since i spent about 140 quid on vx parts and then this mechanics labour and the car is ruined. it idles rough and generally clears at high revs. but if i leave it idling for more than 5 mins then it misfires though all the revs. it drives terrible.. i heard from a few other people that the valves could have been belt and a mechanic says thats not the case since these are hydraulic or some thing like that. i dont know what iam supposed to do and iam completely confused. please help!

Find out the fault code - see Pedal Trick in Paperclip Test and Pedal Trick post in Maintenence Guides.

Did the mechanic use a full locking/timing kit when he did the belt?  Did he do the full kit, or just the belt?

At the risk of sounding mis-trusting, are you sure the timing is accurate? If it was fine before and needed adjusting for being wrong thats where i would look.

Ok, lets set the record straight on a few things.

1) The timing being slightly out would not cause a miss fire.

2) Its possible to bend the valves, this mechanic is talking cobblers (a worrying sign already). The valve followers are hydraulic which means they automaticaly adjust to remove the clearance between the cam and valve head! The valves can be bent, that I guarantee you!

Post the exact fault codes you are getting and lets take it from there!

defo do pedal trick mate, dont need a diagnostic machine for the engine ecu, omega can read its own, it will flash out the codes for you and tell you which cylinder is playing up. See here, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687

It does sound like the mechanic has dropped a gooley to me is there a vac pipe not connected?, and a doublecheck on the cambelt would`nt go amiss.

hey! firstly thanks to all of you, you all are really great, since i havent been on many forums i must say that this forum is the most active one and people and everyone is actually ready to help. As for the omega, i took it down to another mechanic who was actually quite helpful, told me straight that the timing was out made me sit down, and re-timed it, it was not out by a touch but was out by a lot. The car is perfectly fine now! no misfires etc etc.! thanks again.
P.s will complete my location and also put up a few pics of the v6! cheers :)
