Upgrade Chip!
« on: 03 February 2009, 11:33:31 »

Does anyone on this forum know if there is an upgrade chip for my 2.6 petrol saloon and if there is, is it worth fitting?   :-/

Afraid not, a remap is possible, but no chip swap possible on the 2.2, 2.6 or 3.2

ive read on here that others have resorted to using 3.0 cams to get a bit more oomph out of the 2.6,i believe its the inlet cams but somebody will probably tell you for sure on here :y

Is this what superchips would do then? I was having a look, as you do, and they quote about 13bhp increase, IIRC?

No personal experience of this but afaik the results are not usually worth the outlay and increase in fuel economy. Petrols dont respond the way diesels do from what i gather. As said, better and cheaper results can be had with 3.2 or 3.0 cams, usually breakers on here have a few kicking about and i would imagine if you put the word out someone on here may sort you out on the install...

Why do you say the road tax is doubling next year???
The Government was increasing the Road Tax for vehicles bought after March 2001 to about £440 a year from March this year..........................but as I understand it the have done a back pedel and are not going to introduce it now!!!!! there are some new tax rulings bought in for cars bought after 2006, but as far  as i'm aware all us Omega owners are going to be safe from that!!!

As said...government back tracked due to it being ridiculous and unfair and them getting a great deal of flack from it...so the tax doubling has been introduced only for cars registered after they announced it in 2006...for cars between 2001 and the date in 2006 its only about £15 more a year than the pre march 2001 equivalent...capped at band K rate or something like that...
