I would probly start by havin a quick look at the brake shoe/disc condition, then possibly wheel bearing?

When its off the ground is there any freeplay on the wheel? Could be the old wishbone issue?

I had that problem on my old 2.0 estate and it was worn wisbone rubbers allowing the tyre to just snag the mudflap when turning left, new wisbones cured the problem.

Worth checking if you have mudfaps, if not I don't know what the problem is.

Didn't realise it's just been mot'd... Still check them though... Front bush :y :y

Wouldn't be the first time an MOT tester has missed something ::) ::)

Other than that... Start checking everything methodically :y :y

Wishbones only fail MOT if freeplay is excess - could still be enough to cause noise, i agree about the bearing check tho. ;)

Mudflaps are fouling the tyres, I have just had exactly the same problem.  New wishbones and full alignment made it better, but I took the mudflaps off this afternoon and now its gone  :y

Cheers,
