Heated Seat and Eco help!
« on: 07 February 2009, 12:18:51 »

A mate of mine has just bought a '99 2.5 CDX estate which is a very nice motor but with a couple of queries.

Firstly the drivers heated seat doesn't work! Checked the fuse (Fuse 14?) that's ok, swapped the switches over, no difference, tried to see under the seat if there's a connector to check the element but can't see one. Is there a connector? I presume the switch light gets it's earth through the heating mat? (No light on the switch!) I've looked at the Haynes manual and there doesn't seem to be a relay for the front seat heating but there is for the rears???

Secondly, the Eco switch doesn't work. My old Elite only has ordinary air-con but this one has Climate. I know that the Eco switch turns off the air-con part of the Climate but should it do it at anytime in any position? I've heard that there is some re-setting to do with the Climate but I don't know much about it!

The windows and sunroof needed re-programming so I guess the battery has been disconected at some time...

Any help would be appreciated! Ta

Can't say for the wiring to the seat, but the base & lower back sectionsare in series with each other so when one bit goes tits up you lose heat / 12v to both. It'll be the base element that's failed. You can replace the element if it'd fabric seats or just put another mat under the original sewn into the leather mat.

Windows reset - power each window up and hold the switch til you hear a click.
Roof - turn the switch to tilt and push in the switch till all movement stops. Repeat for closed & slid fully open.

Eco - pass!  ::)  ::)  :y

faulty eco switch hmmm! when you press the switch with the climate set to say 20"c can you hear the compressor switching on and then press eco and do you hear it turn off? could be the lights faulty in the switch

Heated seats unless its an MV6 which it isnt its quite hard to repair them so best left alone!

No it's not!  ::)  ::)  :y

Have a look first before you get replacement mats. The damage to mine was obvious as soon as the cover was partially removed. 10 mins with side cutters & a soldering iron I had 4 working seats!

Sir Tim,

Just tried that, turned the climate on and right down Lo and the compressor must kick in (difficult to hear with all the fan noise!) as the air out the vents gets stone cold! Pressing the ECO switch makes no difference.

One thing I noticed, the ECO switch isn't a locking switch like the heated seat switch, is that correct? Just a push button. I suppose I could have the ECO switch out and put a meter on it to see if it's working ok?

PS Do CDX's have Traction Control? Again there seems to be a button but nothing happens when you press the switch.

AFAIK all V6's have traction control. Try on grass/slippery surface, if the car feels as though you're bouncing it off a rev limiter and you're not getting any where fast ... then you have TC but no working lamp/led in the switch.  :y

If you get the "bouncing" feeling the TC light on the dash should light up as well

Sussed it! Last night when we went out in the car after dark, we noticed that the three right most switches (eco, traction control and drivers heated seat) didn't light up with the lights on. This morning in the cold light of day (and after the hangovers had gone!) we had the climate control panel out and found that the plastic assembly with the wiring connectors had fell off the back of the panel. Five minutes later with it all back together we now have working ECO, Traction Control and drivers heated seat :y
