hi,can anyone tell me how much id expect to pay to have new head gasket fitted to 99 cdx 2.5td please and how big a job is it as DIY  thanks :-[

What makes you think you have a failed head gasket would be the first question...what are the symptoms?  :y

yes its td,water is leaking out the side of engine at head gasket location and when filler cap is off the water is being pumped back out of filler tank also heater dosent blow warm.thanks

not cheap matey if the head is warped will need a new head £0000s !!!  :( :(

BMW state this head cannot be skimmed.  So if HG failed (or more likely head cracked) it can be bad news.

Has it overheated at some point?

Hasn't Jimbobs mate done this, I know its early days but would be interesting to see how long it runs for.

Yes, his Engineers took 7 thou off, (next to nothing)

Running better than ever at the mo.


edit - same engine, but on a landrover not an omega.

So they skimmed about 0.25 mm off.

Yes, there is a what is considered to be a thou in metric (mm's!)

Quite clearly the head was not warped if that is the case so no point machining it at all really!
