had to call breakdown !!

  hi guys ,
      i had a close encounter yesturday at tesco ,
i stopped the car and went shopping , came out and nothing the car would not start nor turn over , all dash lights except (eml) light ?

  changed battery and still no look ,
the relays were buzzing , the rev counter showing 5ooo revs
the radio panel flashing , and no way of starting !!!!!

 anyway managed to start it after 10 min by ( well dont really know )
drove it up to my dads and it ran as it should , stopped the car and back to as it was  DEAD ,...

 anyway called the breakdown and they had a look and said it was the fuel pump relay first as it was buzzing ??    then he looked again and noticed a earth strap loose , re tighted it and fired up straight away !! :y
  all that for a earth strap !!!!!  happy as larry now  :y :'( :'(

Same thing happened on my previous 2.0 Ecotec.
Turned out to be the earth lead where it bolts onto front of the engine. Dead simple, though not obvious.
Got a new lead from Vx to be on the safe side.
Car's still going strong with it's subsequent (happy) owner!

Also happened on my TD Astra van and 2.0 CDX Carlton. Both had charging faults - I fitted additional earth straps on both from the alternator tensioning bolt to the cyl head. No probs after that either!
