Pumping out oil?
« on: 13 February 2009, 15:53:18 »

Hi

I noticed on the Opie Oils website that an option instead of draining oil out of the sump is to pump it out via the dipstick holder using a manual pump...  Has anyone tried this - is it recommended or does it leave 'sludge' in the bottom of the sump (I drive diesel...)

I don't mind getting under the car, but it would seem to be a lot easier from the top!

Thanks in advance for the advice

Chris

I have used one for the last 60k mls. It sucks it out while you change the filter.    Pela Pump.
I have done this since the drain plug on my last elite wore away. :y
Get's my vote anyway.
A lot of marine engines use em, & they put up huge hours.

we use them at work and they are great makes life a lot easier.
only problem is the sump plug is magnetic and catches any c@*p which a pump will not remove.
merc service says one spanner (minor service )use pump,
two spanner (major service) remove and clean drain plug.
for peace of mind i always drain from the plug if its covered in filings its a good early indicator that there is something wrong
