PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP
« on: 13 February 2009, 20:58:14 »

First post so please bear with me.
I had to replace the battery towards the end of last year and everything seemed fine. On boxing day i had to go out and the outside temp read 29.5 and went up bearing mind it was about -3. It was the same the next day 29.5 to start and then went up. At the same time the heaters seemed to not get as hot as they should. A few days later the temp gauge just read F on the left side of the display and C on the right i think it is. The heater only blows hot air on full, even on 28 it blows cold after a couple of minutes. The window screen now condensates quite badly.

I have cleaned the run off's either side to the rear of the engine bay. They were quite clean anyway. The pollen filter is dry and clean.
I have looked at the pass side foot well for signs of dampness but cant really find anything other than cold carpet but not what i would call damp. Cant see any loss of coolant.

 :-/

Has anyone get any ideas?

Many thanks in advance  :)

Firstly welcome to oof :y

Sounds like the outside temp sensor has fubard so this will need replacement. I take it you have climate control as you have a CD model. What you can try is prees off and auto at the same time to reset the CC and this may reset the heater. You can also check the inlet and outlet hoses to the heater matrix and see if these gat hot, if they do your heater matrix could be blocked therefore you need to flush the coolaning system. If not then your thermostate could be stuck in the open position and not working proberly and you will need a new state. Remember if you are flushing the system you will need to refill with 50:50 mix of coolant and water. You may also have an airlock in the system and the cure for this is to run the car for approx 15-20 mins with the rad cap off and the heater blower on full and point to the windscreen.

I have a Turbo Weasel, and although my temp is fine (Perhaps a tad on the low side) The climate displays show temp in Fahrenheit, I am sure it used to display Celsius. I have just read about resetting it and will try in the morning.
I suppose replacing a sensor is a doddle, never done one yet.

It's at the base of the nearside front bumper/skirt.
Can't miss it, multi-connector and two wires. Close to the horn(s)!

Paul, thanks for the advice. I did as you said with the heaters and now get some heat but not for long. Once i get heat after about 2 minutes cold air then comes out again. Turn the heaters off and leave for a couple of minutes and turn on again and i get hot air again. I have noticed that the temp gauge doesn't move alot. In fact never goes above 75. Even when i tow my van it doesn't really move over 80.

Any ideas?
