Hi,

For some reason I get vibration at just over 70mph, and it gets worse as you go faster (I've not tried above 85 though). I also get some, but not always, when braking. When braking it is mainly through the steering wheel, but when cruising then there is some through the steering wheel but also through the seat.

I've had the wheels re-balanced with no effect.

Any ideas?

If the wheels atre 100% true then next port of call is the discs, followed by the wheel bearings.

Bearings can be eliminated by checking...

Jack up car, grab wheel at 3/9 o'clock and feel for free movement.  Repeat holding at 12/6 position and remember how much movement you got.  Repeat with someone depressing the footbrake.  If movement goes when brake depressed, blame the bearing.  If the same, would need to look elsewhere - but you have a start point!!

i found when i had my buckled mv6 wheel on the front it would vibrate the steering wheel when coming out of corners and around 50mph even when it'd been balanced so it went on the back till i started stripping the old barge

I have also bent an MV6 wheel and thought that was the cause of the vibration. I now have a set of elite wheels and still have the problem!

I have 2 good MV6 wheels going now if anyone wants to buy them (did have a 3rd, but have a buyer for that already).

I've also noticed a similar kind of thing with my Miggy, but doesn't change when braking.  Only happens above 65mph, and doesn't feel like wheels out of balance.

Could it be propshaft throwing a balancing weight off or something?  :-/

Test described for wheel bearing is car stationary and suspect corner jacked up, not being driven....

There's no whining or anything, which has thrown me a bit - when I've needed wheelbearings before, there's normally been a whining noise.  Which is what got me thinking along the lines of propshaft being out of balance  :-/  
Or am I barking up the wrong tree - it wouldn't be the first time H21!

 I would be inclined to think front suspension, shocks, broken springs top mounts or even worn prop bushes as you say you've had wheels balanced and i take it there wasn't an inaudenent amount amount of weights fitted and it doesn't do it whilst braking:).

where the wheels balanced on a 5 stud balancer?thats what cured mine. Does not explane the break issue though.

I've no idea, but I guess not as I don't think they are very common. I'm going to check the bearings and disks first. It started without me changing the tyres so it is more likely to be something other than the wheels - I initially thought it was the wheels when I discovered one of them was bent but that is now ruled out as I have new wheels with no change to the problem.

Clue could be in bent wheel.What bent it?Could be damaged hub or drive shaft.

Because the prop shaft rotates much faster than the wheels any vibration is normally felt at a much lower speed - 30 or 40 MPH IME. For this reason I doubt this is a propshaft issue.

wondering if there are 2 seperate issues with this, somethin is not of true obviously, to cause the vibration, but the intermittant break wobble im wondering might be wishbone bush slop? Worth checking while you have it jacked maybe..?
