Get someone to push bonnet up and down whilst you pull lever.

Used to have same problem but used a hammer wedged under bonnet release lever after pulling it up as far as it would go (if on your tod) then then just pressed down on bonnet & it should pop up :y

Then adjust it cable thats to be found on battery side at front under the plastic covers at front of engine compartment just 1 screw to undo & pull cable to take up slack then tighten screw up. :y

Well I got the nice rac man out to open the bonnet today and the problems seems to be the cable being stretched so its not fully pulling the latch back. I take it you can definately adjust the cable?

Yes.

Right side of slam panel - the panel the bonnet slams onto when shut - and you should see a rusty-ish screw and a clamp with what looks like the brake cable for a push bike coming out.  Slacken the screw then pull the entire cable back towards the right/windscreen a bit then retighten then try opening bonnet again....

as above remove the black covers that run along the slam panel you will then see the cable undoo the bolt and move the cable to the pass side untill tight tighten re fit job done  :y

looked at the nut and its pretty rusty. how easy is it to replace if the bolt if it snaps , it looks like it could break.

Mine did this the other week! I got the wife to pull the lever whilst I pushed on the bonnet. Once I'd got it open I covered the mechnism in copper grease and hey presto its been fine ever since!!! Sounds like you will need to adjust the cable first though, as others have said! :)

Yeah I.d put plenty of grease on when the rac came round and pulled the cable outer sleeve to the right which took up the slack but it still wont pop . I just thought there might be some more adjustments.

Have you tried getting someone to push down on the front centre of the bonnet while you pull the cable, just to check it pops that way??

The way to do it is to get someone to pull the lever then thump or bang the front of the bonnet untill it opens but I cant keep doing that so I looking for a permanant solution really.
