hi everyone i have a 2 litre omega with dohc and i am trying to fit a new timing belt put dont know which marks to line up with what on the camshaft sprockets. if you look at the 2 of them the left one only has one marking on it but the right one has 2 one marking says intake and the other says exhaust which marking goes to the top please help. pics would be even better thanks. ps i dont have a clue what i am doing

There is a mark on each cam wheel that needs to line up with the first bearing cap at the top. Crank has a similar mark that needs lining up with the mark at the very bottom (6 o'clock position).

yeah but the right cam has 2 marking dont know which one to use. ?

Dependant on it being the inlet or exhaust cam

The sprocket is normally stamped in or ex

yeah just got one but cant see where it tells me about which mark should go where

I do recall that one of the marks is miles out when the one on its own is lined up so obviously I used the one that did actually line up then stuck the locking key in lined up with marks at the top..I imagined that the other mark was cast in it for use as a inlet cam shaft gear also when manufactured, as it serves no purpose
Its shown clearly on page 2B*4..3.5 at top of page in Haynes book it even shows the crankshaft pulley at TDC once those 3 all line up thats when you need to lock it with a key or wedge or something !! then undo tension pulleys & Slide belt off

the belt had snapped and the sprockets are not in line anymore so just need to line them up for the new belt to go on. going to give it a go at the weekend cheers for the advice.

I wouldn't bother, if the belts snapped the valves will be bent.

For info, the exhaust cam is on the right by the exhaust manifold (hence the Exh mark) and the inlet is on the left (obvious really) when viewed from the front
