Thermostat Renewal
« on: 15 February 2009, 21:15:07 »

I think i need to renew the thermostat on my 2.5 diesel. Temp needle doesn't really move off the bottom of the gauge. Even in traffic it doesn't move. Even when towing my van it doesn't move very far.

Has anyone changed 1 before? It is an easy job? How much is a new 1?

Any advice would be great. ;)

I've covered it a few times lately, see if a search will find it :)

OK, black turbo diesel plastics off.

That stupid, gay, pointless, gay stupid bloody fan off (left hand thread) - god knows what the pillock at BMW was smoking that day. Remove plastic cowling around it.

Undo bottom hose from stat housing.

3 10mm bolts hold stat housing in place.

Refit its reverse, its also a good time to drain rad and block (lol - before you start!), to ensure decent antifreeze mix.

Does it require a gasket?
