power sounder/flat or ify battery.
« on: 16 February 2009, 10:44:13 »

3 or 4 times the Alarm has gone off on start up. First time i thought o oh, power sounder on the way out. But its only done it after a lay up over the weekend or over night and only on start up.

I have also been wondering if the battery is getting a bit tired, as on start up it sounds like the starter is not as strong as usual, and then i put 2 and 2 together and wondered if the low battery was setting off the alarm when starting up as the voltage drops too low and the alarm thinks the battery is being disconnected.

Also, when using the self levelling to raise the rear to work on the car, i forgot to turn the ignition off and flattened the battery completely. So then re charged the battery fully and the alarm has not gone off since in over 10 days.

I suspect the battery setting the alarm off on start up. Or does anyone think the sounder is dieing?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Chris.

I have had exactly the same happen to me. As the car sometimes is only used for short journeys and sometimes not at all for a period, the battery sometimes gets low (not enough use to recharge fully from alternator - nothing wrong with battery!!). Every time this happens when starting for first time in this condition I get:-
1) Power Sounder starts
2) Traffic Master Message - Licence Expired!! (It has!)

Switch off, cancel Power Sounder from Key Fob and restart - All OK and then does not re-occur until battery is low again!!

ok, i guess measure the voltage now, when its topped up, and measure  when or if the alarm goes off again and see any difference. Should give the answer...
Thanks for replys. :-)

Just off for a read on Kevins battery guide.

I had something similar with mine before i had to replace the Battery.
If i put the key in the ignition and turned straight to fire her up( position 3 - i think) the sounder would start.
However - if i turned the key to position 2 and waited a couple of seconds before starting the sound stayed silent.
Since the new battery i can turn to position 3 and start her without tripping the sounder
