Parts Interchangeability
« on: 20 February 2009, 12:56:35 »

Hello all,

I've just bought a 99 3.0 Elite Estate auto to replace my 98 2.5 auto estate.

I've had the 2.5 petrol auto for 8 years and cannot stop it losing water.

As both cars are the same colour I'm thinking of keeping the 2.5 as spares.

Are the diffs, radiators, gearboxes etc interchangeable between the 2.5 and 3.0?

Thanks

Steve

3.0 will shred the 2.5 auto in miles

You'd be suprised, it will eventually melt it, but not that quickly...

Plus you've got many body parts etc for possible future use.

The likelyhood of you needing the diff is minimal, unless you reverse flat out and jam it in 1st, but then id guess even then the box would blow first,

autoboxes providing they are maintained properly will outlast the ownership of the car.

And if you radiator did go, then it would make sense to put a new one in rather than a used for 8 years one.

panels can be interchanged but bear in mind there is several shades of the same colour, so a rear door from one on the other car might look out of place.

also how long do you want a scrap car hanging about your house?

lots of things to consider I guess.
